How to make a Vegetal Framework

1 June 2022
When you think about the design of a room, you can in no case miss that green touch that only nature can give. In the last period are particularly depopulating vegetable frameworks, real flower arrangements to hang directly on the wall. Just choose a frame that matches the decor, arrange a grid and choose the plants you prefer to beautify any corner of your home with the colors of nature. The original idea was born from the genius of the Parisian botanist and biologist Patrick Blanc who was the first to compose a picture with plants anchored on a surface of natural or synthetic felt. Since then the fame of these objects of furniture has never stopped growing but on the contrary, especially in this period you can find them everywhere. There are also many artists who have worked to transform simple plants into living works of art, as the protagonists of the famous art movement of Land Art used to do.
Create a DIY Plant Framework
As we have described the floral paintings, they seem to be impossible works to realize on their own. The reality is quite different, however, since in a few simple steps and adding a bit of desire to do, everyone is able to create a “Verdurian” work of art.
- Choice of frame
The first process consists in the choice and subsequent preparation of the frame for the picture. You will have to choose a frame made of plastic or wood, materials that are easy to work with, that best matches the room in which the final result will be placed. The frame must then be attached to a wire mesh with wide meshes, used for fences, in the back with the help of nails or staples. In order not to take risks, it is also better to reinforce the entire structure with a wooden frame or slats along the edge of the frame. We also pay attention to whether or not there is a fastener in the frame, because in case it is lacking it is necessary to fix the support to hang the picture in the desired direction. To prevent mold or corrosion, it is also advisable to treat the wood with impregnation and place a sheet of polyethylene on the back of the frame.
- Prepare the ground
It’s time to take care of the substrate that will host our beloved seedlings. To prepare it in the best way you will have to turn the picture in the back, place a layer of vegetable moss to anchor the soil and precisely arrange the earth or alternatively the sphagnum. Only at this point it will be possible to close the frame using either a treated wooden board to resist moisture or with a sheet of polyethylene also obtained from a garbage bag.
- Selection of plants
Here we come to one of the funniest parts of the project that is also the most delicate. You will have to carefully choose which plants or flowers that best suit the conditions of the room, calculating sun exposure, temperatures, air currents and all the vital factors. Be careful also to choose plants that can live together without causing harm to each other. Only an advance study of the situation will make it possible to successfully achieve the creation of the plant framework. Once the analysis phase is over, it’s time to proceed with the last steps:
- overturn the frame by placing the moss at the top;
- create holes to insert the plants through the wire mesh;
- establish a cultivation program and respect it by following the needs of each seedling.
